Based off of one of my favorite Scripture verses of all time, Luke 24:32: “They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
Quiet, grim isolation,
Overwrought, tired minds
Sleepless, dim nights,
Did not our hearts burn within us?
Distant conversations,
Well-being check-ins,
Tentative consolations,
Did not our hearts burn within us?
Consider anew
Promises kept,
Word unchanging
Do not our hearts burn within us?
Prayers lifted,
Sorrows carried,
Answers heard,
Do not our hearts burn within us?
Easter week,
Separate, but joined
In spirit, in truth,
Do not our hearts burn within us?
His familiar presence
The only One truly cut off,
For our benefit, reward,
Do not our hearts burn within us?
Bruised on our behalf,
Stricken, crucified,
Abandoned, broken,
Do not our hearts burn within us?
Risen, triumphant,
Empty tomb that
Cannot keep Him,
Do not our hearts burn within us?
What surety
What promise
What love
Does your heart not burn within you?
